## HOW TO PLAY SABACC CORELLIAN SPIKE – STAR WARS Games – The Coruscant Tribune

Hi everyone and welcome to the coruscant tribune for this video about sabacc corellian spike! In this video we’re going to show youeverything we know about this card game and we’ll show you the rules we’ve createdto make this game a 100% playable. In the description, you’ll find our rulebookand also the files you’ll need to print and create your own deck of corellian spike! Before we start, this version of sabacc isthe one we can see in the film solo: a star wars story, the book tales from vandor orthe reference book “the last jedi: rose tico: resistance fighter”. For those who already know about “classic”sabacc that we can see both in legends and in canon, you will find some similaritiesin the gameplay but corellian spike still has important differences. So, the deck is made of 62 cards. There are 30 green positive cards that consistsof 3 series of cards from 1 to 10 with different symbols : circle, square and triangle. We have the same number of red negative cards, which means also 30 red cards.

finally, there are two cards with a valueof zero, which are called sylops, an old word in ancient corellian that means “idiot”. This deck is quite different compared to “classic”sabacc. In this version, the sabacc deck is made of76 cards, 60 cards from 1 to 15 in four series : staves, sabers, flasks and coins, and 8special cards. In corellian spike, you have to be the closestto zero as possible and have the best hand. Like in classic sabacc, players can lose theirhands at each turn, because spike dice can alter the course of the game.

indeed, if the dice are rolled and show matchingsymbols, all players lose their hands and get new ones with the same number of cards. These dice are 6-sided dice with symbols representingnumbers 1 to 6. Then it’s possible to play with regulardice. It often happens during the spike phase tolose a promising hand or on the contrary, to get a new hand that will save the day! Before we start a game, it’s important toknow how winning hands work in a corellian spike game. First, you have to be the closest to zero.

this is called a nulrhek. For example the first player has a hand witha -5 and a +6, total value of +1. The second player has a hand with -1, -5,+3 and +5, total value of +2. The first player’s total of +1 is the closestto zero so he’s the winner of this round. Then, for the same value, a positive totalalways beats a negative one.

for example, the first player’s hand is-1, -2 and +4, total value of +1. The second player’s hand is -4, -5 and +8,total value of -1. They both have a value of 1, but the firstplayer wins thanks to his positive total. If two players have the same total, valueand sign, the hand with most cards wins. For example, the first player’s hand is-2, +4, +6 and -7, total value of +1.

the second player’s hand is -2, -5 and +8,total value of +1 as well. However, the first player has four cards, which is more than the second player’s three cards. The first player wins. If two players both have the exact same totaland number of cards, we have to calculate the total value of their positive cards. The first player has a positive total of 10made with his two cards +6 and +4.

the second player has only one positive card,a +9. The first player’s positive total is higherthan the second player’s so the first player wins. If two players have the same positive total,we have to compare the highest positive card in both hands. The first player’s hand is +10, +2, -4 and-7, total value of +1, positive total of 12. The second player’s hand is +9, +3, -5 and-6, total value of +1, positive total of 12 also.

however, the first player’s highest positivecard is a +10 while the second player’s is a +9, which makes the first player thewinner for this round. When a hand reaches zero, it is called a sabacc. To distinguish multiple sabacc hands, we followthe same hierarchy as for nulrhek hands. First, we compare the number of cards, thenthe total of positive cards and finally the highest positive card. The best sabacc hand is one with a pair.

for example here, +3 +3 -6, total value ofzero. If there are multiple sabacc hands with apair, the pair closest to zero wins. Now we move on with difficult hands, startingwith the rule of two. This hand has a total value of zero with twopairs, like in this example, +3 +3 -5 +5 -6. Above rule of two, there is the banthas wild.

this hand is equal to zero with a three ofa kind. Here, he have +4 +4 +4 -9 and -3. Above banthas wild, there is a hand called“straight khyron” or “straight staves”. This is the hand that han plays during hisgame against lando calrissian on vandor-1. This is a straight made of four cards in sequentialorder, still equal to zero.

when there are several straight khyron, thehand with the first card closest to zero wins. Above straight khyron, there is the gee whiz. This hand is made of 5 cards, either +1 +2+3 +4 -10 or the opposite, -1 -2 -3 -4 +10, with still a total value of zero. Above gee whiz, there is the squadron. This is a four of a kind, equal to zero.

four identical cards including two positivecards and two negative cards. When there are multiple squadrons, the fourof a kind which is closest to zero wins. Above squadron, there is the rhylet. This hand has 5 cards with a positive threeof a kind and a negative pair, or a negative three of a kind and a positive pair. This hand could be called a full house andis still equal to zero.

if there are multiple rhylet, the three ofa kind which is the closest to zero wins. Above rhylet, there is the yee-haa. This hand is a pair with a green sylop, totalvalue of zero. If there is more than one yee-haa, the pairclosest to zero wins. Above yee-haa, there is the fleet, a fourof a kind (expect for 10s) with two positive cards and two negative cards and a green sylop, total value of zero.

the four of a kind that’s the closest tozero determines the best fleet. When a green sylop comes with a four of akind of 10s (two positive, two negative), total value of zero, it is called a full sabacc. This is the second best hand in the game. Lando calrissian plays it against han soloon vandor-1. The best hand in the game is called “puresabacc”, a two cards hand with the two green sylop.

if several players are in a tie, which meansthat everything we just described wasn’t enough to show who is the winner, the tiedplayers have to draw a new card. The closest card to zero wins the round. A positive number always wins against a negativenumber. In the yarith casino variant of corellianspike, there are different hands and rules that you can find in our rulebook. Here, we’re going to use “classic” rules.

now that you know which are the best hands,we’re going to show you a game of sabacc, to explain how the game works. Before beginning a round, all the playersmust pay two credits in the game pot and one credit in the sabacc pot. There are two pots in corellian spike. If a player wins a round, he takes the mainpot and if he wins with a hand value of 0, a sabacc, he wins the sabacc pot also. All the players get two cards from the dealer, beginning by the player on the dealer’s left.

then, the remaining cards in the deck areplaced face down and become the draw pile. The first card from the draw pile is put faceup next to the draw pile. The players bet once before the first turnof the round begins. After the setup, the first phase begins : thedraw phase. The player on the dealer’s left begins andcalculates his hand.

she has five available options. She can : take the first card from the drawpile by paying one credit, exchange a card from her hand with the first card from thedraw pile, take the face up card by paying two credits, exchange a card from her handwith the face up card, or do nothing. The first player’s hand is +8 -9, totalvalue of -1. The face up card is a +1, which would makea hand with a value of 0. She decides to take the face up card, pays2 credits and adds it to her hand.

to replace this card, the dealer reveals thefirst card from the draw pile and places it next to it to be the new face up card. The second player’s hand is -3 -6, whichis not that good. He takes the first card from the draw pileand pays 1 credit to do so. He’s not that lucky because it’s a -8! The third player’s hand has a total valueof 0 with -6 and +6, so he decides to do nothing. After this phase, comes the betting phase.

the first player begins. During the betting phase, there are four options: you can call, by matching the amount of the highest bet, raise, by raising the bet, stand or fold. A player can stand if no one opened the bettinground. Players can bet like in a game of poker. The first player has a good hand and bets1 credit in the game pot.

the second player calls at 1 credit. The third player raises at 2 credits. The first and second players call at 2 creditsand then the betting phase comes to a close. After this phase, comes the spike phase. The dealer, in that case the third player, rolls the dice.

the symbols don’t match, so all the playerskeep their hands. A second turn begins with the first player. She decides to do nothing. The second player exchanges his -8 with anew card from the draw pile and discards his former card. He gets a +10, giving his hand a total valueof +1.

the third player does nothing as well. Now it’s the betting phase. The first player decides to bet 1 credit, called by the second player. The third player raises at 5 credits! The first two players call at 5 credits. The second spike phase begins and the dealerrolls the dice.

the symbols match! All the players must remember their numberof cards, discard their hands on the discard pile and the dealer gives each player newcards, matching the number of cards from their former hands. Both player 1 and 2 get 3 new cards and thethird player gets 2 new cards. The first player’s hand is quite weak : +2+3 and +4. The second player’s hand is 0 -1 and -8. The third player’s hand is -3 and +4.

the third and last turn begins. Player 1 decides to take a new card from thedraw pile and pays 1 credit to do so. She gets a -9 which gives her hand a totalvalue of 0 in 4 cards! The second player wants to exchange his -9with the first card of the draw pile and he gets a +9, giving his hand a total value of+1 in three cards. The third player thinks that his hand is goodenough and does nothing. This is the last betting phase of the round.

the first player bets 4 credits. The second player calls. The third player tries to scare the otherplayers and raises at 20 credits! The first player decides to call but the secondplayer folds. Finally, the dice are rolled in the last spikephase. Hopefully for the first player, the symbolsdon’t match, and both players can keep their hands.

the first player shows her hand : +2 +3 +4-9, total value of 0 in 4 cards. The third player reveals his hand : +4 -3,total value of +1. The first player has a hand equal to zero. The second player has a nulrhek equal to +1,so the first player wins this round! With a hand value of zero, she wins both thegame pot and the sabacc pot! To sum up, a sabacc corellian spike game isplayed in three turns. At the start, all the players get two cards.

the first turn begins with the three phases: draw, betting and spike. The next two turns have the same three phasesand at the end of the third turn, the player who has the best hand wins the round! Now you’re ready to begin a game of sabacccorellian spike, and steal all your opponents’ credits! ## How To Play Sabacc – Corellian Spike

Hello. Welcome to the jodo cast. I'm joe and i'm going to teach you how to play sabacc. So this is uh, sabacc? Sabacc. Sabacc. Got it.

there are countless variants of the game played as we can see the game lando is playing in rebels is very different from the game that he's playing in solo a star wars story. But they’re both sabacc. Here’s how to play the variant known as corellian spike a. K. A the version you can get at galaxy’s edge, and there's a slightly simpler version that you can buy from hasbro called han solo card game because i think there was some sort of copyright issue happening when they tried to publish that game! I’ll be using both products to demonstrate how to play. Although if you go ahead and read the article for corelian spike on wookieepedia, the rules are different still! So there's a lot of ways to play. But like i said we’re gunna focus on the two products you can actually buy that are officially licensed.

to win sabacc, you want to get the cards in your hand as close to 0 as possible. We’ll get to how you do that in a second. First you gotta know what the cards even are. There are 62 cards in the deck. There's30 green cards.

30 red cards. And 2 zeroes. All of the green cards are have positive values: so one through ten. All of the red cards have negative value: so negative one through negative ten. The two zeroes are worth zero.

duh. If you have the version of the game from galaxy’s edge, there are three staves, or suits squares, triangles, and circles but nothing in the rules that come with the game even mention their use as part of gameplay whatsoever. Even though we see han call out "straight staves" in the movie! Straight staves. The rulebook makes no mention of these. So i guess…

whatever. There’s also a pair of dice for the game. The meaning of the individual symbols don’t matter. You could use any pair of six sided dice you want as long as each is identical and each face is unique on each die. And for what it’s worth, the dice that come in the hasbro version are actually way better than the dice that come in the version you can get at galaxy's edge.

ok you’re ready to play. You need at least two people though the more the better. One player is the dealer. They get the deck of cards and the dice. If you have some sort of token, totem, or maker handy, you can give that to the dealer as well so that all the players have a visual reminder of who the dealer is, as the role of the dealer will change over the course of play.

the dealer should thoroughly shuffle the deck. The dealer deals two cards to each player. Players should not show their cards to anyone else unless you wanna make the game really hard for yourself… the dealer places the deck in the center of the table. This is the draw pile. The dealer then takes the top card of the draw pile and place it face up next to the draw pile.

that's the discard pile. A game, or hand, of sabacc is played over three rounds. Play starts with the player to the dealer’s left. On a turn, a player can do one the following: draw: this is when you take a card from the top of the draw pile and put it in your hand. then optionally, you may discard a card from your hand into the discard pile. You can swap: swap a card in your hand with the top card of the discard pile.

stand: take no action. Play passes to the next player to the left. Or junk: if you don’t think you stand a chance of winning, you can junk (or if you're familiar with poker stuff; it's fold). Place all of your cards faceup in the discard pile. I guess the order that you place these is up to you.

there is literally no reason to junk your cards if you’re not playing with betting rules, the game officially does not include rules for betting. But it does include junking as part of the rules but there's no point in junking if you're not betting! If you junk you are out of the game until the next deal. Players take turns until the dealer has finished their turn. After the dealer finishes their turn they roll the dice. If the result is doubles, all players discard their cards to the discard pile.

then the dealer deals them cards equal to the number of cards they just discarded. So if they roll doubles and you have three cards in your hand, you discard all of them and then the dealer gives you three new cards. If the dice don’t roll doubles, nothing happens. That is the end of round one. The game continues with the player to the dealer’s left as before.

so you do that again. And again. After the dice have been rolled a third time, all players reveal their cards and the player with the best hand wins. The player whose card total is closest to zero wins. So in this case chopper ended up with a postive 2.

kanan obviously junked his cards earlier. And thrawn and hera are tied at zero. It's called sabacc when you hit zero. Sabacc. Sabacc.

there's a lot of layers to tiebreakers: if nobody has zero, and there is a tie for closest to zero the tie goes to the person with a positive number. So a positive two would beat a negative two. In this we've got a tie for zero and a tie would go to who has the most cards but that's still a tie. So then we look at who has the highest value positive total. So hera has three if you add up all her positive cards thrawn has two.

so hera wins this tie. There's a lot of layers to hand hierarchy and tie breakers which i'll go into in detail in the advanced how to play video. So after that hand is finished and the winner is determined, the role of the dealer goes to the next player on the left. And you start over, do another three rounds and see who wins! So now you know how to play. Aim for zero! Win a new spaceship! Easy! In the next video we're gonna look at the different hands that can win sabacc as well as my suggestions on how to implement betting into the game.

so if you don't care about betting or the more complex ways to win the game: you're done you got you know how to play otherwise uh check out the next video and i'll teach you how to do that hmm. ## HOW TO PLAY HINTARO – STAR WARS Games – The Coruscant Tribune

Hello everyone and welcome to the coruscanttribune for this new video. If you liked our video about sabacc corellianspike in this video we’re going to talk about another game that exists in the starwars universe which is called hintaro. This is a two-player dice game which appearsin role-playing games such as edge of the empire which is considered as legends. This game also exists in the canon universe. The book smuggler’s guide shows that it'spart of the many games that are played in the canto bight casino. In the description you'll be able to findthe rule book and a file that will allow you to make yourself the dice for the game.

to play this game you're going to need 3 dice. Two identical blue dice and one black die. To win the game you have to get one of thefour combinations with these dice. On the blue dice we have two different symbols. The kulro and the tukar.

these blue dice have two blank faces one witha kulro one with a tukar, one face with one kulro and one tukar and then the last oneshows a double kulro. The black die has two other symbols: hin andtaro, which give its name to the game. On this black die there are two blank facestwo faces with a hin and two faces with a taro. A hin removes a tukar and a taro removes akulro, but we’ll come back on that later in the video. To win, you must have a better rank than theother players.

it is necessary to have one of these fourranks in order to win. The 1st rank is tukar to kulro, with two tukarand two kulro. The 2nd rank is quad kulro, with four kulro the 3rd rank is tukar tukar, with two tukar. The 4th and last rank is called kulro kulro, and guess what, with two kulro. To get one of these ranks, players have toroll the two blue dice.

after everybody rolled the dice, it’s possibleto reroll one of the dice to improve your result. However, you don’t have to reroll if youdon’t want to. It’s after this reroll phase that the blackdie becomes useful. The dealer, also called hintaron in this game, rolls the black die. It is going to change the results of everyplayer in the game.

as i said before, a hin removes a tukar anda taro removes a kulro. For example, at the end of the reroll phase, the first player has a quad kulro and the second player has three kulro. Player 1 has the highest rank, and player2 doesn’t even have a winning rank. The second player who is the hintaron in thisgame, rolls the black die. It shows a taro, which removes a kulro forall the players.

because of this, player 1 has no longer aquad kulro, and player 2 gets a kulro kulro, the 4th rank thanks to the black die and wins! This particular die can change everythingat the end of a round. Now that you know the basics, we’ll showyou an example of this game. In this game we have 3 players, and the thirdplayer is the hintaron. All the players must bet an ante to enterthe game, so all the players bet 1 credit each. Once everyone has paid the ante, the playeron the hintaron’s left plays first.

player one rolls the blue dice. She gets one blank die and a die with a tukarand a kulro. Player two rolls the dice. He gets one die with a tukar and one die witha tukar and a kulro. Finally, player 3 rolls the dice and getsone die with a kulro and one die with a tukar.

once everyone has rolled the dice, the bettingphase begins. Betting in hintaro is similar to sabacc orpoker. During the betting phase, you have the followingoptions: you can call, by matching the amount of the highest bet, raise, by raising thebet, stand or fold. A player can stand if no one opened the bettinground. This betting phase begins with the playeron the hintaron’s right.

once the hintaron called or raised, all theplayers must call his final bet or leave the game. In that case, player 2 begins the bettingphase with 2 credits. Player one calls with 2 credits. Player 3, who is the hintaron decides to raiseat 4 credits. Players one and two must call with two morecredits to stay in the game.

once all the players have bet, they have thepossibility to roll again one of their dice. The hintaron asks each player if they wantto roll again, beginning with the player on his left. Player 1 had a blank die and a die with atukar and a kulro. She decides to reroll her blank die and shegets two kulro. Player 2 had one die with a tukar and onedie with a tukar and a kulro.

he decides to reroll the die with a tukarand gets two kulro instead. Player 3 had one die with a kulro and onedie with a tukar. He decides to reroll the kulro die and getsa tukar. He has a tukar tukar, the third best combinationin the game. Once the reroll phase is over, the hintaronrolls the hintaro die.

this die can change all the players’ results. The die shows a hin, which removes a tukarfor all the players. Here are the final results : player 1 hasone die with a kulro and one die with two kulro. Player 2 has one die with two kulro and onedie with one kulro. Player 3 has only one tukar left because ofthe hintaro die.

in the end, no one has a winning combination,so no one wins this round. The credits stay in the pot for the next round. If several players are tied because they havethe exact same combination, the pot is divided between them equally. To win a hintaro game, it is then essentialto have a winning combination and if several players have one, you must have the best one. A second round begins.

at first, player 1 becomes the hintaron, becauseshe is on the previous hintaron’s left. All the player pay an ante to enter the game. Player 2 rolls the dice. He gets one kulro on each die. Player 3 rolls the dice and gets a blank dieand one with a kulro.

finally player 1 gets a die with a tukar anda die with two kulro. The betting phase begins with the player onthe hintaron’s right. Player 3 bets 4 credits, player 2 raises at6 credits. Player 1, the hintaron, raises at 8 credits, making the other players reach his bet if they want to stay in the game. The reroll phase begings with player 2.

he has two dice with a kulro each. He decides not to change his result. Player 3 had a blank die and a kulro. He decides to reroll his blank die and getsa second kulro, which gives him a kulro kulro, the fourth best combination in the game, justlike player 2. Player 1 had a die with a tukar and a diewith two kulro.

she decides to reroll her tukar die and getstwo kulro, which gives her a quad kulro, the second best combination in the game. Player 1 rolls the hintaro die. It shows a hin. This result doesn’t change anything becauseno one has a tukar in their results. Player 2 and 3 have a kulro kulro, but player1 has a better result with a quad kulro so she wins the pot at the end of this round.

to sum up, in a hintaro game, you have topay an ante at the beginning of the game. Each player rolls the dice, beginning withthe player on the hintaron’s left. A betting phase begins with the player onthe hintaron’s right. All the players can reroll one of their diceif they want to, beginning with the player on the hintaron’s left. Finally, the hintaro die is rolled and allthe players’ results are compared.

the player with the best result wins the game. To win, you need to have one of the 4 winningresults. When there is a tie, the pot is divided betweenthe tied players. If nobody has one of the winning results, the pot stays on the table for the next game. So, now you know how to play hintaro! Toplay this game, you can use the special dice created by fantasy flight games for its rpggames.

the two blue dice and the black die are availableseparately in a dice pack. Because they are 6 sided dice, it is possibleto use regular dice, but you’ll have to determine which number corresponds to whichsymbols. In the video description, you can find a fileto make yourself the dice, so feel free to check it out, as well as the rulebook of thegame. I hope that you liked this video about thegame of hintaro.
